Wintergirls

Laurie Halse Anderson's newest book is about anorexia and bulimia. Two friends decide that since they can't been the most beautiful or most intelligent, they'll be the thinnest. Lia is the narrator and she is recovering from Cassie's suicide.

After a chunk of family background, we learn that Cassie tried to call Lia thirty-three times on the night of her death, and Lia never picked up. Lia of course begins to blame herself and is haunted by Cassie's ghost.

I didn't really get into this book until about 70 - 80 pages in, but then I really liked it. Anderson's writing is amazing in places. She has some metaphors that are fantastic. And the ending of the story is perfect. It essentially takes both major possibilities for the end and makes them both happen. Nicely done, I think.

Everything after Speak to me has been a bit of a let down. Twisted was the closest to "good," but I think overall Wintergirls is her best since her first.

My angels

Look at the feet! Riley's legs are all in a bunch. Kayleigh laid down on her and Riley didn't even open her eyes.
