Pubic Enemies

We went to Public Enemies the other day. Mostly I wanted to see it only because Johnny Depp is it. I'm not too interested in John Dillinger. I figured if anyone could make me interested in Dillinger it would be Depp's interpretation of him.

But even though Depp was good, I didn't really like the character at all. I liked the casting overall. There were a ton of really talented people in the film, including a bunch of people I haven't seen in anything in a long time.

Everything the film did with Melvin Purvis was really understated so that when they say in the end that he killed himself, it's not at all clear why. Apparently he was unhappy with how J. Edgar Hoover was running the FBI and the new tactics they were using. I think they could have brought that out more.
